GM's Ultium Batteries Making Progress

At a virtual conference on Friday, General Motors President disclosed future plans for GM’s next-generation Ultium battery as well as a joint development plan with lithium metal battery maker SolidEnergy Systems. The joint battery will reportedly feature a combination of affordability, high performance and energy density and have already successfully been tested for 150,000 simulated miles. President Mark Reuss said during the conference that “Affordability and range are two major barriers to mass EV adoption. With this next-generation Ultium chemistry, we believe we’re on the cusp of a once-in-a-generation improvement in energy density and cost. There’s even more room to improve in both categories, and we intend to innovate faster than any other company in this space.” | Read more
