Volvo to Start Production of VNR Electric Early in 2021

Volvo will begin full production of its Electric regional-haul tractors from its Virginia plant, the same assembly line that produces their diesel VNR to increase scalability and maintain efficiency. These trucks will be designed for local and regional routes up to 150 miles, for food and beverage deliveries. Powered by 264-kWh lithium-ion batteries and a 455 hp rated motor, this truck can produce up to 4,051 lb.-ft. of torque and its regenerative braking increase range by recycling up to 15% of its battery power. The batteries can charge up to 80% in a little over an hour, but is a little over 4,000 lbs heavier compared to the diesel trucks. Read more
