UPS needs to play weekend warrior to catch up to FedEx

As UPS works to meet their goal of “Our Fastest Ground Ever” by cutting one day of all transit times for US ground deliveries, they realize that improving their weekend operations is crucial in gaining market share from their competitor FedEx. Since implementing some changes to meet their goal including diverting parcels from railroads to roadway sleeper teams, UPS has seen 90% of their ground deliveries move in 1-3 days. But weekend operations are crucial in keeping customers happy, especially when FedEx Ground delivers to nearly 95-100% of the U.S population during the weekends.
